These special search engines are generally very small because they only provide information on one topic. While the topic they are focused on may contain a lot of information, it is not likely to appeal to great numbers of people. The main problem with vertical search engines is finding them. Since they only have information on a specific topic, there are only so many people that are going to be interested in using them to search for things. But if you can find them, then you will have found a powerful specialized search tool that is very good at one thing, and that is providing your with as much information as possible on the subject that you are interested in.
